This is a very basic forum that is pretty simple to use. If you have any questions about anything forum related (how to use things), please post them here.
If you go to your profile and then click Modify Profile, down toward the end of the page you can change the skin you see. The basic ProBoards forum is fairly hard on the eyes (to me, anyway). Choose the "Chainmaille" skin and you will see the background mentioned in the Forum Background sticky.
Also while modifying your profile, you can change your avatar, your signature, and add a webpage to your profile for people to link through to easily. ProBoards is basically the same as zetaboards, it's just easier to manipulate everything.
