I have a neighbor here in my neighborhood who participated in a holiday gift tag swap. It was between her group of scrapbookers, so they all got papery with it and made some amazing gift tags. Not that it's really entirely relevant to chainmaille, but it gave me a thought.
Would anybody be interested in participating in a chainmaille theme Christmas ornament swap?
Here's how the gift tag worked:
>They all made X amount of gift tags (20 ladies participated in the swap, so they all made 20 gift tags) and sent them to Lady A.
>Lady A then separated the gift tags out so each lady got one of the tags.
> Lady A then sent all of the gift tags back out and VOILA! Everyone had 20 amazing gift tags. I saw them. Some of them really were amazing.
Notes: Since the tags were paper and glitter and stuff, I think it might have taken 2 stamps to send them all out. So that's not a big deal on shipping. I think if we stuck with lightweight metals *ahem*aluminum*ahem* we shouldn't have to shell out big on the mailing of the ornaments.
If we were to do this (for next year, of course) we would have to have a solid number of participants by, say, June. We would also have to have a Lady A. I will be Lady A if no one else wants to do that bit.
Then we would have to agree on a material. I'm not about to ask someone to send me a Christmas ornament made with sterling. I'm thinking more along the lines of aluminum. Keeps the shipping weight down, too.
And then, everybody makes their ornaments by Nov. 2. Why this date, because that's the date the scrappers used. Their Lady A had enough time to sort all the tags and send them out in time for Christmas tagging.
I realize that chainmaille ornaments can be a bit...unwieldy. They're not flat like paper tags. So just keep that in mind if we decide we want to do this.
I just thought this would be a good idea. If I get enough feedback on this, I will post it on Facebook and send out a mass message on Artfire.
I also wouldn't want to have people really start on them until about June of next year. But that's only 7 months away now. I know personally that I hunt each year around this time for a new ornament for our tree, and this would be great. If we could get 10 people interested in it, that's 10 new ornaments for your tree next year! We would have the most unique trees in our neighborhoods, I bet!
