FACEBOOK CHALLENGE [/center] I posted a challenge on Facebook yesterday in an attempt to get some promotion going on. No one has responded to it as far as I can tell, so I'm posting it here, too. Basically, it says it all. - Pick a random shop from the guild roster.
- Pick your favorite item(s) from that shop.
- Blog, tweet, pin the item(s) to promote that member's shop.
- Post a link to the item and your blog (if that's what you chose) on the Facebook page. If you post to Twitter, don't forget the #AFCMG tag and @mention the member you're promoting. If you pin the item, use the description space to tell why you love that item, and @mention any members you know to be on Pinterest.
The only rule is that you cannot do this with one of your own items. Of course, promote your items all you want. But part of the point of this guild is to promote other members as well. So get out there, find your faves, and promote them! You can also come back here and post your promotional links. The possibilities are endless.

OK. I picked pieces from Harmony In Metal. 1. I blogged about it here. The feature will post today at noon CST, so a few hours from now my time. 2. I made a set on Polyvore pairing three items from Harmony in Metal with a simple outfit. Here is the set. 3. I pinned the set to my Artfire Chainmaille Guild pinboard. My Pinterest can be found in my signature. I invite anybody who uses Pinterest to contact me and I will add you as a user who can pin to this board. Since my Pinterest is attached to my Facebook, this was the only way I could figure how to make a board for the guild... 4. I tweeted about the set, with an @mention to Harmony In Metal (@harmonyinmetal), #AFCMG, and #awesomestuff.

wireandchains - You did great! And to answer some things about the other stuff: blogging is basically your journal online. You can set posts to be private so the public can't see them or you can post them to the public. You can also schedule posts to come out at certain times, which is great if you want to post a series and get a bunch of it out of the way in one sitting. It's not for everyone, so if you never get a blog that's fine. If you want to look into it, I recommend Wordpress.com or Blogger.com. Polyvore is a site that allows you to make a set of items (i.e., clothing, furniture, art, etc) and then share that set. I used it to make an outfit with the pieces from Harmony in Metal. As other people hover over the pieces in the set, a title tag will show up with the name of the item, the price, and the website. Instead of a whole bunch of links to an entire outfit worth of stuff, it puts it all in one place with pictures. Depending on how you compose your sets, they can look like pages out of a magazine. It's interesting, and you can sign in from your Facebook and share the sets with your friends or fans. Or sign up through Twitter to do the same thing. Pinterest is just plain addicting. Your account is set up with pin boards that you name. You install the Pin It button on the toolbar of your browser and when you run across something you really like (it can be anything), you click the Pin It button, choose which image you want to pin, write a description or something (or hit the spacebar and leave it blank) and then pin it to your account in the board you want. People can either browse through the pins in a general category, or follow your pins specifically to see it. When they click on the pin, it will take them to the site where they can find the item or craft tutorial or whatever for themselves. I use it for a lot of recipes I want to try, crafts I want to do with my daughter, home improvements I can do on my own, and so many other things. Where in my blog I would have to link back to the site where the art is (or whatever else), Pinterest does it for me. When pinning from Artfire, make sure you pin from the items actual page and not a general search page. On Twitter, you have 140 characters to get the point across. So people use bit.ly and other link shortening services to make their links super short. When used correctly, it's a great way to get things out there to your fans that don't check Facebook for most of the day. You put the people you follow into lists and then just check those lists for any updates. Hashtags (#hashtag) are a great way to also keep up with topics you want to follow. The guild hashtag is #AFCMG, so when you go to your Twitter account you can search for #afcmg and you will only see the tweets that have that tag in them. I know that with a blog, you can add widgets to the sides to show your Twitter feed, your Artfire RapidCart, your latest Pins, and several other things. Writing a blog isn't a big deal, but reading them can be entertaining and informative if you have the time. If you have a Google account, you can follow most blogs and read them on Google Reader or get them in your inbox. For instance, I follow a lot of mom blogs and DIY blogs. But again, if it's too much for you or just plain not your thing, that's fine.
