By a while, I mean about a week.
A few weeks ago, my mom had surgery to remove a nerve in her foot (she had tarsal tunnel). She was on crutches until yesterday, and I was her driver. It was OK until she had to go back to work last week and I found myself driving a solid 300 miles in about 3 days. There were early mornings and a very cranky 3 year old involved in this, so it took something that wouldn't be so bad into territories of tired and angry parenthood I thought were reserved for the first month after birth.
On top of my mom being off her feet, the day she had her surgery I was out of town taking care of my husband's grandmother. She fell and hit her head and wasn't listening to my mother in law (her daughter) at all. I had better luck with her so me and the toddler were there for three days. During that time, my grandfather was in the hospital with pneumonia caused by the fact that he tries to breathe while he swallows.
While we were out of town driving my mom hither and yon last week, my dad was in a bad car accident and has a partially crushed vertebra. So he's in a lot of pain. Luckily, my brother lives with him and is able to help out.
And then, this past Sunday night I was in the ER with my husband. He was having very bad abdominal pain and they were throwing around the theories that it was either his gall bladder/liver or appendix. After they did a CT scan and it came back clear, they sent us home with prescriptions for a bunch of meds and instructions to come back immediately if the pain got worse or he started to vomit. So far the meds are working, and we think that while I was gone last week he ate something with garlic in it. He's allergic to garlic, but it's very hard to avoid when you just buy stuff blindly and eat it. If he gets enough of it it causes inflammation in his gut. We hadn't thought about that when we were at the hospital, so they're probably still thinking appendicitis.
Anyway, that's been my last month. I've been trying to get on and check everything, but it looks as though activity has come to a standstill. I'm hoping this is just because it's the end of summer and any of you who are teachers or have kids in school are busy getting ready for the school year to start if it hasn't already.
I've been seeing a lot of chainmaille on the front page lately, of course the last time I saw it was a week ago. So way to go! I hope everyone is doing fine and having fun.
